Why we need your body positive art

The other day I found myself humming a song unconsciously. When I tuned in, I suddenly heard what I was singing:

You got me suicidal, suicidal....

Sean Kingston portrait on black album cover with bold text Beautiful Girls and SEAN KINGSTON at the bottom.
(this is the song I was singing)

Um, what?

That song came out in 2007. Why am I still singing it?!

Apparently about 33% of the population has at least one song stuck in their head daily*. Are you one of the special ones like me? :)

It's one of the reasons I started the Body Love Creative Writing Workshop and #BodyLoveOpenMic-- because I know how a song or a poem or a story can just get under your skin and stay there.

We see ~4,000-10,000 advertisements every single day. With numbers like that we gotta be honest: we are all being brainwashed, whether we like it or not.

So I choose to intentionally brainwash myself with the stuff I actually want. I choose to brainwash myself with body positive art, with the images of diverse bodies, and messages about how weird and amazing bodies are, and how possible it is to love myself.

I choose to counteract all the bullshit with something good. That's how I point my life in the direction I want it to go.

*Ok I admit, I didn't exactly fact check this. If you got the real stats, pls share
