Exactly what to expect in I Have a Body!

Writer's picture: Talia CooperTalia Cooper

Applications for I Have a Body! are due this Sunday. Here's why it's TOTALLY safe to apply:

  1. Application is an expression of interest, not a commitment to join

  2. If you are accepted in the program and realize after our first session that it's not for you, you get a full refund

Here's what you can expect in the program:

Before it starts:

You and I meet 1:1 for 30 minutes. You share your hopes, dreams, fears, and how I can best support you.

Session 1: Introduction. We will:

  • Learn a key mindset to support your body liberation journey

  • Create the group conditions that make learning possible in a a mixed-size, mixed-age, mixed-race group.

  • Try out a somatic practice

  • Create your go to affirmation

Session 2: Setpoint weight theory. We will:

  • Learn the big thing that was missing from my understanding of weight

  • Review the top 3 myths about bodies and how to bust them wide open

Session 3: Intuitive eating part I. We will:

  • Learn a new definition of the word "diet" (it's different than what you think)

  • Understand the number one mistake people make when talking about intuitive eating

  • Practice honoring your hunger and making peace with food-- in real time

  • Ditch the good food/bad food dichotomy and say goodbye to last supper eating

Session 4: Fatphobia and Health At Every Size®. We will:

  • Go all in understanding fatphobia and its connection with racism in the U.S.

  • Get nerdy and dig into the creepy history of Graham crackers and Kellogg cereal

  • Answer the question: "How do you detach health from weight?"

Session 5: Media Inventory. We will:

  • Learn the number one trick that will change your brain chemistry to love more diverse body sizes, including your own (Alums always tell me they are shocked this worked!)

  • Get creative and retell cultural stories about bodies

Session 6: Intuitive Eating Part II. We will:

  • Practice a radical release of the food police

  • Understand the connection between satisfaction and fullness (aka why you sometimes graze and graze even after eating a whole meal)

  • Look at one of the main confusions about the intuitive eating principle "Feel your fullness"

The I Have a Body! cohort came to me at a time when I felt so stuck around the disgust I had for my growing body. Learning how to interrupt some of those thoughts, notice them, compassionately put them aside, was life changing. Learning from other fat activists through amazing resources you provided felt like such a special, empowering treasure. While I was in the cohort, it felt hard to fully feel how I was shifting, and looking back at it now, I’m like damn! We did work! And how loving and supportive was that! I love your many modalities of facilitation, from mini lecture to song to embodiment practice to break out room. It felt spacious and creative and like a pace that really honored the timing it takes to unlearn some of the harmful ways of being. I can truthfully say I rarely spend time thinking about how my body looks and spend way more time thinking about how to honor all bodies and create accessible spaces for all. So thank you! My path toward freedom is that much closer.

Session 7: Redefining Health. We will:

  • Examine the question "Can anyone be 100% healthy?"

  • Practice accepting the reality of mortality

  • Be honest about what we think health is vs what health actually is

  • Learn how to think about health in connection to intuitive eating

Session 8: Intuitive Movement. We will:

  • Discuss why I'm a HUGE FAN of intuitive movement and relieving the pressure to exercise

  • Try out a movement practice in the safety of our own homes (camera off!)

Session 9: Letting Go of the Perfect Body. We will:

  • Ask: "What does the perfect body mean to me? In what ways am I holding on to it? What would it mean to release?"

  • Create a collective of ritual to let go

Session 10: Redefining Beauty/Attractiveness.  We will:

  • Release societal beauty standards

  • Re-evaluate your own relationship to beauty and attraction

  • Learn a secret that only I Have a Body! alums know about ;)  (I can't wait to tell YOU!)

Session 11: Body Liberation Superheroes. We will:

  • Get creative and figure out what to do when triggers pop up in the future (because they will) so that you're confident you can handle any food/body challenge that arises

  • Make some art

Session 12: Closing. We will:

  • Review a brief history of everything in the universe including you

  • Shower each other in appreciations and reflect on our journeys

At any point during the program:  a 1:1 coaching session (1 hour) where we dig deeper on any and all of the things coming up for you

After the cohort you will:

  • Get access to my full library of body liberation content (12 videos, 14 worksheets, 9 guided visualizations) so you can review them anytime

  • Get invited to alumni events and check ins

This is all worth infinite dollars and infinite cents because what you're really getting is a supportive, SHAME-FREE space to learn about and talk about bodies while connecting to other rad people who speak your language. Release the choke-hold of body shame and see what there is suddenly space for.

Instead of charging you infinite dollars, it's $840. If you come from a marginalized background and price is barrier, let's chat.

I want this to be life changing for you.

Let me know if you have any questions.
