Advice about mirrors from my baby

Everyday I walk my baby over to the mirror to check out her reflection. And every time 1 of 3 things happens:

  1. She breaks out into a huge grin, utterly delighted to see herself

  2. She looks on with neutral curiosity

  3. She bursts into tears

Bursts into tears? Only 5 months old and already having issues with her self-image? (Says my worried-mama-body-love brain). Then I ask myself if she's eaten recently and if she's had a good nap, and it starts to make sense: when she's well-fed and well-slept, she loves the mirror. If not, cry city.

So the next time you find yourself frustrated with your reflection, ask yourself, "Have I met my basic needs today? Do I really hate how I look, or is it possible I just need a snack?"

Sending love, Talia (& baby Lala) P.s. and remember that neutral curiosity is also an option!
